Telefónica Europe strengthens Board

Telefónica Europe plc today announced the strengthening of its Board with the appointment of three new Executive Directors.  Following the recent acquisition of the leading communications innovator JAJAH, its CEO, Trevor Healy, joins the Telefónica Europe Board of Directors.  He will be joined by Luis Malvido, Chairman and CEO of Telefónica O2 Czech Republic, and Kate Jarvis, who is appointed Director of Legal & Regulatory Affairs for Telefónica Europe.

Trevor Healy joined JAJAH as CEO in 2007 where he is responsible for all aspects of the company's operations. A successful entrepreneur and NASDAQ 100 executive, he previously held senior positions at eBay subsidiary, PayPal Inc.; VeriSign Inc., a leader in internet infrastructure; CelNX (Cellular Network Exchange), which he co-founded; and wireless commerce specialist Trintech Group PLC, where he set up the company's US operations.

New Telefónica O2 Czech Republic CEO, Luis Malvido, takes up the role after more than 11 years as CEO in Telefónica fixed and mobile businesses in Brazil, Venezuela and Argentina. He has previously managed diverse portfolios within Telefónica, including customer service, sales, business development and strategic planning. He replaces Salvador Anglada, who moves to a senior position in Telefónica S.A. and steps down from the Telefónica Europe Board.

Kate Jarvis has been Legal Director of Telefónica Europe since January 2009, with responsibility for all European legal and compliance matters, in addition to legal and regulatory issues in the UK. Prior to this, she was Chief Counsel for O2 UK, Products O2 and Genie Internet, having originally joined BT's corporate development team in 1999. She worked previously at Freshfields and BMG.

Announcing the appointments, Matthew Key, Chairman and CEO of Telefónica Europe, said: "I am delighted to welcome Trevor, Luis and Kate to the Board. They each bring a range of skills, experience and intellectual rigour which will prove invaluable to the business as a whole, as we move towards a new period of growth based on the increasing convergence of fixed and mobile communications with Web 2.0 technologies."
