Telefónica has decided to donate funds of 10 million yuan (approximately €1 million) to provide assistance after the devastating effects of the earthquake which struck the province of Sichuan in southwest China.  

This cash donation will be channelled through official agencies designated by the Chinese government, and will be managed with a particular focus on the children affected by the earthquake. 

In this manner, Telefónica takes part in aid and rebuilding efforts in Sichuan and shows its solidarity with the families of earthquake victims. The Company has strong ties with China following its 2005 purchase of a stake in China Netcom, a carrier with which it has a strategic cooperation agreement.
