We aim to act responsibly and sensitively in all our dealings – locally, nationally and internationally – and to tailor our actions to the needs of our customers and the concerns of stakeholders.
Three main strategic objectives continued to direct our corporate responsibility activities in 2006:
Corporate responsibility is managed by our operating businesses, aiming to ensure that our everyday work is informed by close collaboration with our customers and communities.
During 2006, we sought to spread our policies and practices across Telefónica O2 Europe, and share a like-minded rapport with our colleagues in the wider Telefónica Group. Telefónica is committed to supporting corporate responsibility as an integral part of its business strategy.
We co-ordinate corporate responsibility through a Group-wide Corporate Responsibility Forum, which met monthly in 2006, moving to bi-monthly in 2007. The forum considers key social, environmental and ethical issues. These cover compliance with our Business Principles, environmental management, diversity, stakeholder dialogue, the ethical supply chain, health and safety, community investment and reputation at risk.
The forum offers O2 practitioners from all Telefónica O2 Europe operating businesses the opportunity to discuss issues relevant to the business before they go to the recently established Telefónica O2 Europe Governance Committee and the Telefónica O2 Europe Board via quarterly and half-yearly updates. Regular management reports include information on our progress against targets.
